Nethmini Happawana is a dedicated community leader, cultural ambassador, and advocate for the Sri Lankan and broader Asian American communities in Southern Nevada. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Entrepreneurship from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), where she cultivated strong foundations in leadership, strategic planning, and innovative problem-solving. Her academic background continues to inform her work in community development and organizational leadership.
Nethmini has played an active role in the nonprofit and public-service sectors, working to promote civic engagement, cultural visibility, and equitable access to resources for underserved communities. She has collaborated with several influential organizations, including the Asian Community Development Council (ACDC), the South Asian Women’s Alliance, and the Sri Lanka America Association of Las Vegas, where she served as Secretary. In this role, she helped strengthen cultural identity, expand youth engagement, and organize major community events that brought Sri Lankan heritage to the forefront of Las Vegas’s multicultural landscape. Her leadership contributed to increased outreach, improved community programming, and deeper unity among Sri Lankan families and professionals in the region.
In addition to her nonprofit commitments, Nethmini holds a professional role in public service, where she continues to advocate for inclusive community representation and meaningful cross-cultural collaboration. Her work reflects a sincere dedication to amplifying voices, strengthening community networks, and creating pathways to opportunity for individuals from all backgrounds.
Nethmini’s ongoing mission is to uplift the Sri Lankan American community, support the empowerment of Asian American leadership, and build bridges of connection between Sri Lanka and the United States through business, education, culture, and service.
